Choosing the best time to visit Vietnam is not difficult, you can go at anytime you want. This is because Vietnam is a country with the length of thousands of miles from the North of Sapa to the South of Mekong Delta.
There are two relatively different climate areas here. The North climate has four seasons while the South climate has only two seasons of rainy season and dry season. So Vietnam will satisfy visitors needs with different things in different months and seasons.
Because of those features, it is relatively difficult to tell you exactly which is the best time to visit Vietnam. It depends much on your need. You can take the following suggestions to consider to find out the best time for you to go.
January – March- The best time to visit Vietnam
Table of Contents
The period of time between January and March has the most lively and enjoyable festivals occurring around the country, especially Tet holiday.
The specific weather of Vietnam from January to March is cool and sometimes has showers in the North and dry in the Central an the South. It is relatively good for leisure travel.
In addition, this period of time is not peak-season; therefore, it is the best time for people who like the quiet and peaceful atmosphere to visit Vietnam.
If you’ve made a plan for walking to the countryside of the North Vietnam, make sure to bring coats with you to keep you warm. You can also enjoy the fairly cold weather of the neglected and impressive mountains such as Sapa. It will surely give you new feelings!
Those are suitable times for you to visit some famous places: Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city (Tet holiday), Sapa (January-March), Dalat (January), Nha Trang (January-March).
April – June
The weather is fine, but there are not many festivals. Some suggestions you can take are to visit Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in the time of April 30- May 2 which is also the time for long days off in Vietnam.
You can see many beautiful cities and enjoy the fresh air without facing much with traffic jam. It is also a perfect time to visit museums and tourist destinations.
Those are suitable times to visit: Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (the late of April and the early of May), beaches (period between May and June), Hue (Hue festival-in May or June).
June – the early of September
The specific weather of this time is hot and wet. It doesn’t appear to be an ideal time to go travel; However, it would be perfect for people who enjoy swimming and sunbathing. They will not find anytime better than this time to visit Vietnam.
The weather is not fine during this period of time in the North of Vietnam such as Hanoi and Sapa while it has storms in the Ho Chi Minh City. If you come from a tropical country, fortunately! You’ve accustomed to this kind of weather. If you don’t, use suntan cream to prevent you from sunburn.
If you don’t like crowded places, avoid traveling at weekends because in this time beaches and tourist destinations are very crowded with people. The best time for you to go to these places is from Monday to Wednesday.
Mid-September – December
It is the best time to travel to Vietnam to visit famous places in the North of Vietnam such as Sapa, Ha Long Bay and neighboring provinces with clear sky and breezes. It is also the best time to visit Hanoi.
The late of September and the early of October is also a good occasion to visit Sapa to enjoy breathtaking and colorful terraced fields ready for collecting. The temperature is cool which varies around 200C.
Whereas, it is not likely the good time to go to the beaches of the South. In October and November, Nha Trang is usually rainy and wet. It may badly affect your vacation.
The Central of Vietnam is also the same, especially Hue and Hoi An, is usually rainy in November and December. However, if you travel in this time, you can avoid the heat of summer.
Vietnam is really an ideal destination of choice to go throughout the year with its features. You need to know clearly what you need and what you want to choose the best time to visit Vietnam and perfectly enjoy your vacation!
